Board Member

Heather Gray is a leading art lawyer with more than 25 years of experience in the field. She is currently the personal art lawyer for one of the world’s most prominent art collectors. Heather works remotely from Jackson for the collector’s family office, which is based in New York. In this role, she handles all legal matters relating to the family’s extensive art collection, including purchases and sales, loans to museum exhibitions, commissions of artwork, charitable giving, tax matters and litigation. She runs a department of four in-house art professionals, which includes an art historian and a collections management team.

Prior to joining the family office in 2014, Heather worked at Sotheby’s auction house in New York and in Los Angeles. During her six-year tenure at Sotheby’s, she held both legal and advisory roles, working as Associate General Counsel and advising clients and fiduciaries on the disposition of art.

Before Sotheby’s, Heather spent nine years in private practice at Sidley Austin in New York where she advised top art collectors, artists and galleries on tax and estate planning for art. She holds a BA from Stetson University, a JD cum laude from Stetson University College of Law and an LLM in Taxation from New York University School of Law. She also did post-graduate work in art history in London at a program run jointly by the British Museum and the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.

Heather fell in love with Jackson’s incredible beauty, wide-open spaces, and amazing wildlife while on vacation a decade ago and moved here full-time in February of 2020. She is awed and inspired by the charitable mindedness of the Jackson community and recently completed a term of service on the Board of Directors of the Center for the Arts. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, hiking, reading, and international travel.
